Setting Up Separate Identities in Outlook Express

Sometimes it is helpful to keep a business mail account separate from a personal mail account. The following instructions will guide you in setting up a separate identity in Outlook Express.

1. In Outlook Express, from the menu select File/Identities/Add New Identity.
   
   
   
   
2. Identities in Outlook Express have individual names. The default identity is Main Identity. Select a name for this new identity.
   
   
   
   
3. A window will pop up asking you if you want to switch to the new identity now. Click Yes.
   
   
   
   
4. This will open up the Internet Connection Wizard. Enter the Display Name for the new account. (This is the name other people will see when you send them an email.) Click Next.
   
   
   
   
5. Enter the email address in lower case letters. The email address will have the format of username followed by the @ sign followed by your domain name. Click Next.
   
6. On the mail server screen, the wizard usually defaults to POP3. Check to make certain that it did.
   
7. Enter the incoming mail server in lower case letters. The incoming mail server will match your domain name. eg   My web site is www.foxedge.net so my incoming mail server would be mail.foxedge.net.
   
   
8. Enter the outgoing mail server in lower case letters. The outgoing mail server needs to match the mail server given to you by your ISP for your dial up account. If your ISP is QCI Internet, then your outgoing mail server will be mail.qcinet.net. Click Next.
   
   
9. Enter the username and password in lower case letters. This will be for the mail account you are setting up, not for your dialup account. Click Next.
   
10. When you have entered the information correctly, click Finish on the final screen.
    
    
11. It will be necessary to change identities back when you are finished with this account. Go to File/Switch Identities and select the identity to switch back to.
